Catch Up With the Boxers – September 2015: Part 3
It’s September, one year since the launch of the world’s first website dedicated to sport science in boxing. Here at Boxing Science, we are celebrating our birthday by an article series dedicated to the real reason behind our maiden years success, the boxers.
Without the commitment, hard work and application of the boxers we work with, we wouldn’t have been able to share the fantastic results and the progressions of our program.
Part three of the series will catch up with Sheffield professional prospect Kyle Yousaf, amateur brothers Zohaib and Zahaid, as well as young amateur Leon Moulds.
Catch up with part 1 and part 2 here.
Kyle Yousaf
Kyle Yousaf joined the program late July and is already showing progressions in strength and movement competencies. Kyle is also becoming accustomed to working at high intensities, smashing out maximum speeds during repeated sprint sessions on the curve.
Kyle will be boxing on the Dennis Hobson show at Magna Centre on October 17th.

Zahaid and Zohaib Khan
Brothers and amateur boxers Zahaid and Zohaib Khan have been regulars on the Combat Conditioning program since July 2014. Quickly nicknamed ‘Z1’ and ‘Z2’, the boys have been a pleasure to coach and have come on a long way in a year.
They have just finished the foundational movements of the clean, and have now been introduced to performing the exercise with load on the bar.
Also, the boys have extended their training package to one small group training session per week, which has been favorable to their development with more individualised coaching and fitness drills.
Zohaib says that “There are many ways in which strength and conditioning benefited my boxing, physically and psychologically. The intense training I do with Danny has improved my mental strength as I am in the best shape of my life”
When discussing the small group sessions, Zahaid says “I’ve started doing the smaller sessions which has improved my A game as the training is more intense, the coaching is much better and I am learning all the time. I have a great coach and I have gained so much confidence, stability, strength and in great shape being only 5 weeks back into this program I feel like a beast!”
“There is not a single room for errors during my lifts and has improved my technique dramatically and as for the conditioning the curve has become a lot more intense” added Zohaib.

Leon Moulds
The 2014 Yorkshire Schoolboy Champion Leon Moulds has been one of our young protégés for just about 2 years. Accompanied by Niall Sharp, he has gone through multiple training phases to develop his strength, speed and movement competencies in stages of the Combat Conditioning Graduation. Now a ‘Junior Master’, Leon has been learning the clean, snatch and a range of Olympic lifting variations.
See why S&C training is important for young athletes here.
His training progressions has seen some great changes in his physical performance, including a 25% increase in estimated punch force.
Leon also attended the Summer Youth Training Workshop, where he worked hard and learnt a bundle. He says that the workshop was “Reyt’ good!”…. bearing in mind he described his 4 week trip to Florida as ‘good’, we take this compliment in high regard
