Muheeb and Neeko

Following over 50 Boxing Science training programs, we have seen fantastic long and short term improvements in physical performance. These include 18% increase in aerobic capacity, 20% increase in estimated punching force and 32% improvement in lower body force.

Over the next week or so, we are giving our readers an exclusive insight to our training methods through our mini-series ‘Catch Up With the Boxers‘.  We are giving you an update of the training methods the boxers are doing on our strength and conditioning programs at Sheffield Hallam University.

In this article, we will be catching up with the duo fighting of Burngreave Boxing Club – Muheeb Fazeldin and Nicolie Campbell

Muheeb Fazeldin

Muheeb has now been training with us for the past 14 months, and he has made some impressive progress in lower body and core strength as well as his high intensity conditioning. Whilst ‘making weight’, his strength and conditioning program made him stronger even though he was losing body mass. Making pound for pound improvements in trunk mass and lower body strength led to Muheeb being fitter, bigger, stronger and punching harder at a lower weight.

‘Flashy’ has fought three times whilst training at Sheffield Hallam Universityincluding his impressive points win over tough customer Barrington Brown and his devastating first round victory against Sheffield rival Uzair Najib to win the super-bantamweight central area title (watch here). For this fight, Muheeb added an altitude training program to his preparations. He says that the training “took me to hell and back” but believes that this “gave him the extra edge and confidence in his fitness” going into the ring on Saturday 21st February 2015.

Now with his eyes fixed on bigger titles, Muheebs training consists of a lot of curve sprints, altitude training, explosive work, including jumping, sprinting and fight specific exercises as well as Olympic lifting regressions.

Muheeb is next fighting on Dennis Hobson’s show at the Magna centre on Saturday 17th October.

Nicolie Campbell

The ‘Pretty Boy Assassin’ has been one of our main trainers on the program since the start in July 2014. The light-heavyweight boxer has won both of his 2 opening fights to his career whilst training with us, and he has been a massive advocate for the strength, explosive and repeated-sprint training processes we put in place at Combat Conditioning.

Recent testing shows that Nicolie’s strength and conditioning training program has contributed to 24% improvements in pound for pound punch force, this means that he is able to punch harder at a lighter weight.

The ‘Pretty Boy Assassin’ says he is now able to perform “Fitter and faster for longer, making maintain my performance from the first to the last”, going on to state “that the results are proven, we can see it in the statistics. This gives me a psychological edge”.

He has shown massive improvements in his Olympic lifting, showing better technique under heavier loads (see his progress here). In the video below, he is hitting a steady 160 kg on the Rack Romanian Deadlift… this is approximately twice his bodyweight!

Nicolie is next fighting on the Dennis Hobson show at Magna Centre on October 17th. Click here to see more about Nicolie’s training
