SPORT SPECIFIC TRAINING
As strength and conditioning coaches, our job is to improve physical performance to meet the demands of the athletes sport.
This means we put in the training methods to help improve physical qualities, which can be generic across different sports. However, to match the two up we often use training specificity to make sure the physical gains made are then transferred to competition.
Furthermore, there is a demand of the athlete or coach for the work that you’re doing to have a direct impact on the sport they do. This challenges us, and often takes us away from the purpose of strength training.
In this roundtable discussion, S&C coaches will be sharing their opinions and practices on how to link physical training to technical performance.
We will be discussing sport specific S&C exercises, the role of S&C coach during training camp, and energy system / pacing for sport specific fitness.
