Plyometrics

In our years of testing and research, we have found that boxers have a very small difference between countermovement jump and squat jump. This suggests that athletes struggle with the eccentric utilisation phase of the shortening cycle during jumping exercises.

The best way to improve this is to improve eccentric strength through heavy strength training, however this can be made difficult as athletes can become extremely sore and it affect their technical training. Furthermore, this is even more problematic for boxers due to high training loads and low calorie intake.

That’s why we aim to improve eccentric utilisation through plyometric training, and plays a key part in our training strategy.

In ‘Plyometric Training for Boxing’, we cover our core training philosophies more in-depth and show over 20 different exercises during a practical workshop. This has been taken from our seminar delivered during our ‘Ultimate Coaching for Combat Sports’ weekend workshops.
