Last night saw the 88th academy awards, so we’ve decided to have our own Boxing Science Oscars!

We have created 8 categories, in which we have awarded the best performing articles based on page views.

In 16 months, we have achieved 128,000 views already! This is thanks to our fantastic writers producing creative, informative articles to help boxing performance.

Best Article – Science Behind the Punch

The stand out article of the year goes to The Science Behind the Punch, amassing over 4,500 page views. This is one of our first articles that lay the foundations for our other articles, explaining the scientific evidence on what makes a forceful punch!

Danny Wilson and Alan Ruddock co-wrote our leading article that seems to spreader much further than we expected. The article performed well with our friends Boxing News, however ‘similar’ content crept on to Floyd Mayweather’s website.

Danny Wilson’s article ‘Stronger Core Punch Harder’ is our best S&C article and 4th best overall. A core training article was always going to do well due to ‘abs conditioning’ playing a big part in traditional boxing training.

Nutritionist Lee Rickards made his Boxing Science debut with a 3 part series about Carbohydrates for Boxing. With a lot of boxers dieting to make weight, carbs are often reduced in their daily intakes. This makes it very important to carefully choose the type, timing and quantity of carbs to improve performance and make weight.

In the build up to last years mega-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, Boxing Science ran a series of ‘May-Pac’ themed articles called ‘The Week Of The Century’.

As coaches, our favourite articles are when we share the training and amazing results achieved by the boxers we work with.

It’s no surprise that the best case study goes Alan Ruddocks write up of Kell Brook’s training for the world title. Alan, with support from Dave Hembrough, travelled to Las Vegas and LA to provide sport science support to help the ‘Special One’ clinch the IBF world welterweight title from Undefeated American Shawn Porter.

This makes Sport Psychology a massive player in sport science for Boxing. Dr Pete Olusoga introduced the importance and fundamentals to ‘Train your brain’, getting the basics right to tick all the boxes.

When there is a big fight on the way, there are discussions and debates amongst the boxing public on who will win and why.

A lot can be told based on the training of each boxer. With pre-fight documentaries and the growing popularity of social media, we can have a real insight to how a boxer trains. Also, boxing training is evolving, meaning new methods leaving the boxing fans intrigued.

Boxing Science have a unique article series where we analyse the training camps leading to a big fight. Mayweather vs Pacquiao was our first and most successful.
